Tony Bloomfield

Tony Bloomfield

Tony Bloomfield was born in Hartley Wintney, England and settled in Grimsby, Ontario in 1947 following WWII after serving in the Royal Air Force.

He never played the game of hockey, Francis Gerald “Tony,” was a cricket and soccer player,  but dedicated his last 50 years to administering both minor and junior hockey in Ontario. Joining the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) Board of Directors after managing the Grimsby Peach Kings, Tony would go on to become Chairman of the Board from 1990-1992. In 1995, Tony would be presented the OHA Gold Stick Award, followed by being named an Honorary Life Member of the OHA in 2003.

Tony is one of only three men to have been President of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), Chairman of the OHA, as well as a member of the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA).

Tony was twice married, first to Audrey (1968) and then to Mary Elsie (2002). Between his two wives he raised six children, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Sadly, Tony passed away peacefully, at McNally House Hospice in Grimsby on July 15, 2011 in his 87th year. Tony was one of the greatest volunteers to hockey in Ontario.
