SUMMER PARENT

The Glacier Pilots organization is looking for families willing to host our players for the upcoming 2021 ABL Season. The season generally runs from the first week in June to early August.

We are incredibly grateful for our host families, without whom our season would not be possible. Their kindness and generosity are appreciated by the organization and even more by the players. The bond between players and their host families often extends beyond the summer and into lifelong friendships.

We ask that each host family provide a bed, bathroom, access to a washer & dryer, and daily meals. The Pilots pay a monthly stipend to offset grocery expenses, and the host families are not required to provide transportation for players.

If you are interested in joining the Glacier Pilot Family or would like more info on this opportunity, you can contact us at 907-440-1785 or glacierpilotshousing@gmail.com.

SELECTION PROCESS

The kind of player you get is primarily up to you! Do you want to go to a game once a week? Then ask for a starting pitcher.  Is going to every game more your speed?  Ask for a position player. Our goal is to match players and families so that everyone has the best and most positive experience possible. We will do our best to accommodate your requests!
Once you are paired up with your player(s), we will share contact information between the two parties so you can begin speaking before the summer season starts.

FAQs

Why should I host?

Being a Glacier Pilot host family is an extremely rewarding experience. We provide passes to all Glacier Pilot home games and hope to see you at the ballpark often. You will get a backstage look and experience Glacier Pilot baseball like never before!

Our players are wonderful young men that can be great role models for young children and good additions to any family.

You will create lifelong bonds with collegiate athletes, many of whom will go on to play at the professional level.

Responsibilities?

You can find a comprehensive list of both player and summer parent responsibilities and expectations by clicking here.

Transportation?

You will NOT be responsible for the transportation of your player(s) while they are in Anchorage. The Glacier Pilots organization maintains a fleet of donated “aging” cars for coaches and players to use for the summer. If you do have a car that your player(s) can use, please let us know.

Do I have to cook for players? Do their laundry? Clean up after them?

Yes and no. We expect that you will provide each player a bed, food, and a bathroom they can use. They should also be able to share your washer and dryer. We (and the players) do not expect that you wait on them hand and foot!  Please include them in family dinners and provide them breakfast and lunch, or food for their own fixings!  You are not a short-order cook. Feed them as you would your own children or guests. They may even try to cook for you!

As for laundry, they are expected to do that for themselves. They are expected to clean up after themselves and respect your home as they would their own.

Can I leave for my cabin on the weekends?

Ideally, you will be in Anchorage whenever the Pilots are. Though our players are usually wonderful young men, they are still young. If you are comfortable leaving players in your home while you’re away, please coordinate/communicate with us or the housing coordinator so that we can make arrangements for your players.

Are there tax advantages for hosting players?

We will provide a letter to you stating the dates that the players were housed with you. You can take that letter to your tax advisor to determine tax advantages for hosting.
