All-Star Game Preview

February 5, 2015
10:13 PM EST

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) hosts its annual All-Star Event on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at the RMU Island Sports Center.  The PIHL All-Star Games showcase our most-talented student-athletes at the PIHL Varsity level.  On that day, 168 players will put their skills on display over 4 action-packed games.

The first game at 11:00 AM will feature the Varsity Division 2 classifications.  The top players from Class B and Class C were selected by the coaches within the classification, then the teams were mixed to create a Team Black and a Team Gold.  Teammates will face each other on opposing squads, while unfamiliar faces will also square off, creating a unique match-up that is sure to provide plenty of intrigue.

The 1:00 PM game features the Class A teams, which will be formed using the conferences in which their teams fall.  The two tiers in each conference merge to form Team West and Team East.  The 21 players on each roster were selected by the 9 coaches within each respective conference.

Class AA takes center stage for our 3:00 PM game.  The 21 players on Team West were chosen by the 7 head coaches in that conference, just as it was done for Team East.  This represents the only time of the year that teams battling for playoff berths unite together under a single banner.

The Class AAA game gets started at 5:00 PM and will feature players from the same Varsity team dressing in opposing colors for their all-star team.  Team Black will face-off against Team Gold, as the top 42 players from the 12-team classification give their very best.

In addition to the action on the ice, the PIHL intends this event to be a celebration of the loyal hockey community and the great sport enjoyed by so many in Western Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia.  The PIHL invites all fans to join them as they showcase excellence through competition and sportsmanship.
