Amelio leads Peters Township over Shaler, 8-4

Behind a great game by Matt Amelio, who had two goals and two assists, Peters Township defeated Shaler, 8-4.

Amelio's tallies came at 1:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Peters Township and 4:49 into the second to make the score 4-2 Peters Township.

Peters Township forced Shaler's goaltenders to work all game long, ripping 32 shots and forcing 24 saves. Paul Zalakar made 14 stops and Wyatt Wolf made 10. Peters Township excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Peters Township bested its season scoring average. Peters Township has scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Peters Township gave up more goals than its normal season average. Peters Township averages 1.8 goal allowed per game. The defensemen of Peters Township were also effective in Shaler's zone, and came away with two goals.

Peters Township additionally got points from Zachery Gielarowski, who also registered two goals and one assist and Jake Shopes, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Will Barnes also scored for Peters Township. In addition, Peters Township received assists from Cal Raymore, who had three and Conrad Deemer and Conner Gielarowski, who each chipped in one.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Shaler was helped by Cameron Bardsley, who racked up one goal. Bardsley scored 2:51 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Peters Township. Norman Riffner assisted on the tally. Shaler also got points from Riffner, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Shaler included Joshua Brantner and Alex Ficorilli, who each put in one. More assists for Shaler came via Jason Fisherkeller, Nathan Boch, and Justin Yuiska, who contributed one each.

Caden Shell made 23 saves for Peters Township on 27 shots. Peters Township incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Shaler incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
