Wayne Jacklin
Wayne was brought to Dresden in the 1962-63 season to play with the Jr Kings. He played hockey with the Kings and Jr B Maroons until the end of the 64-65 season, that’s when Wayne’s career launched into the ranks of coaching.
In 1965-66 Wayne held the Dresden Minor Hockey Skills School every other Saturday and in 1966-67 became the assistant coach and manager of the Dresden Bantams. In 1969-70 he was the assistant for the Jr Kings squad, that only a few years prior he played with. The following year as head coach, Wayne took the Jr Kings all the way to the top as they won the Ontario Jr C Championship.
Wayne Jacklin went on to coach a number of hockey squads, Dresden Novice, Ontario Senior B Bothwell Barrons, Dresden Jr Kings again, Chatham Jr B Maroons, Strathroy Jr B Blades, Chatham Jr B Mic Macs, Sarnia Jr B Bees, the Leamington Jr B Flyers as an assistant, the OHL Windsor Spitfires as an assistant, Team Ontario, Windsor Lancers, plus many hockey skills schools.
Wayne has a knack of teaching and getting the most from his squads. All in all, Wayne’s hockey clubs brought champions back to Dresden in 1970-71 as Ontario Jr C Champions and 1983-84 as Great Lakes Jr C Champs. He coached Western Jr B Champions in Chatham in 1990-91 and Sarnia 1992-93.
Wayne maintains that without the aid of outstanding owners, managers, assistants one man couldn’t succeed alone.
Wayne and his wife Fran have a daughter Stacy. Now that Wayne is retired from the canners, he and Fran spend their winters in Arizona.
