6 more CJHLers selected on Day 2 of NHL Draft
2 defencemen and 4 forwards chosen by NHL clubs Saturday

CHICAGO, Ill. – A day after Canadian Junior Hockey League Top Defenceman and Most Valuable Player Cale Makar (Brooks Bandits, AJHL) was chosen in the first round, fourth overall, by the Colorado Avalanche six more CJHLers heard their names called Saturday during Day 2 of the National Hockey League Draft held at the United Center in Chicago, Ill.

Leading the CJHL list on Day 2 was defenceman Ian Mitchell (Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL) who was chosen in the second round, 57th overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Round 3 saw the Arizona Coyotes select another blueliner in Cameron Crotty (Brockville Braves, CCHL) as he was tabbed 82nd overall.

Next to go was forward Bryce Misley (Oakville Blades, OJHL) and he was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the fourth round, 116th overall.

He was followed by another forward in Parker Foo (Brooks Bandits, AJHL) as Chicago drafted him in the fifth round, 144th overall.

Four picks later the Columbus Blue Jackets used their fifth round selection, 148th overall, on another forward, in Kale Howarth (Trail Smoke Eaters, BCHL).

Then rounding out the list of CJHLers drafted was forward Nick Campoli (North York Rangers, OJHL), who was secured by the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in Round 6, 158th overall.

Makar, Mitchell, Crotty, Misley, Howarth and Campoli all competed in the CJHL Prospects Game this past January in Cornwall, Ont., while Foo joined Makar in helping Brooks capture Alberta Junior Hockey League and Western Canada Cup titles as well as a second place finish at the RBC Cup in Cobourg, Ont.

Also of note, Crotty and Misley were members of Team Canada East that mined a silver medal at the most recent World Junior A Challenge in Bonnyville, Alta.

Meanwhile Makar and Mitchell skated on defence for Canada West at the same event.

CJHL’s Makar (Brooks Bandits, AJHL) goes 4th overall in NHL Draft
Becomes 2nd highest drafted player in CJHL history

CHICAGO, Ill. – Highly-touted Canadian Junior Hockey League standout Cale Makar (Brooks Bandits, AJHL) joined the list of CJHL players selected in the first round of the National Hockey League Draft as he was chosen fourth overall by the Colorado Avalanche Friday evening at the United Center in Chicago, Ill.

With his selection, Makar becomes the second-highest player ever drafted directly from a club in the 132-team league from the 10 Jr. A leagues from across the country and portions of the U.S.

Only Kyle Turris who taken higher as the current Ottawa Senators forward was chosen third overall by the then Phoenix Coyotes back in 2007 NHL Draft.

Makar also becomes the highest drafted AJHL player in history, surpassing Joe Colborne, who was taken 16th overall by the Boston Bruins in 2008 from the Camrose Kodiaks.

Makar was the highest-rated CJHL Prospect among North American skaters as chosen by NHL Central Scouting and moved up five spots from his ninth overall listing.

Coming off an outstanding 2016-17 campaign with Brooks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, Makar would go on to be named both the CJHL’s defenceman and player of the year for his on-ice efforts.

He also garnered similar laurels in the AJHL and also played for Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge in Bonnyville, Alta., skated for Team West at the CJHL Prospects Game in Cornwall, Ont., helped lead the Bandits to a Western Canada Cup crown in Penticton, B.C., as well as a second place finish at the RBC Cup in Cobourg, Ont.
