Locos D.J. Jackson wins Player of the Week

GLSCL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - WEEK 6
(Time period July 10 through July 16)
DERRICK “D.J.” JACKSON, JR - LIMA LOCOS - JACKSONVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY
Derrick Jackson, Jr. hit for a .438 batting average going 7-for-16 at the plate. Jackson hit a home run driving in six RBIs with three doubles and two runs scored.
Jackson had three hits against the Muskegon Clippers leading into the all-star break on July 10. He came out of the break hitting a three-run homer against the Grand Lake Mariners on July 14 at Simmons Field.
Jackson returned to the Locos three weeks into the season after playing last season in Lima. After a slow start he is now hitting .278 as a regular playing first base for the Locos.
Last season the Huntsville, Alabama native was an all-star and a big part of the Locos success as they were made an appearance in the GLSCL Championship series.
Jackson completed his second season with Jacksonville State in the spring. The Gamecocks, playing in its first season in the Atlantic Sun Conference, finished with a 19-11 league record advancing to the conference tournament.

JOE KIDD - MICHIGAN MONARCHS - INDIANA STATE
Joe Kido went 7-for-16 for a .375 batting average over the course of the week. Kido’s seven hits included a double and a triple with four runs scored and three stolen bases.
LUKE HOUIN - CINCINNATI STEAM - ST. LEO UNIVERSITY
Luke Houin went 5-for-11 hitting .454 during the abbreviated work week. Houin drove in five RBIs accumulating a .583 on base percentage. He leads the Steam with 21 RBIs for the season.
KYLE RATLIFF - SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS - SIU-EDWARDSVILLE
Kyle Ratliff hit for a .347 batting average going 7-for-20 at the plate with one home run and three RBIs. Ratliff extended his hitting streak to 13 games dating back to June 30. He also scored four runs and stole three bases. Ratliff leads the GLSCL with seven home runs and is tied for fifth with 27 RBIs.
ABOUT THE GREAT LAKES SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The league currently consists of 13 active franchises in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
