Scouts Garrett DeCLue takes final GLSCL Pitcher of the Week

GLSCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - WEEK 7

(Time period July 16 through July 24)

 

GARETT DeCLUE - XENIA SCOUTS - UNIVERSITY of the CUMBERLANDS

Garrett DeClue threw his second no hitter of the season beating the Cincinnati Steam 1-0 on July 18. DeClue pitched a seven inning complete game striking out five and walking just two batters. He is the first pitcher in GLSCL history to throw two no hitters in the same season.

 

DeClue becomes the only player or pitcher to win multiple weekly awards in the GLSCL this season. He also tossed a seven inning no hitter against the Richmond Jazz on June 19.

 

DeClue finished the season with a 4-2 record making eight appearances, seven of which were starts. He pitched a scoreless inning in the all-star game for the South Division. DeClue finished in the top-five of the GLSCL strikeouts (41) and ERA (2.14) leader boards.

 

DeClue game to the Scouts from the University of the Cumberlands, an NAIA school in Williamsburg, Kentucky. He went 4-0 for the Patriots in 12 appearances with a 4.00 ERA in 45 innings of work. DeClue was the winning pitcher in the Mid South Conference tournament championship game as the Patriots defeated Freed-Hardeman University.

 

The Patriots won its second consecutive MSC tournament crown finishing with a 46-16 record falling to Tennessee Wesleyan in the NAIA Opening Round Championship Game.

 

The Littleton, Colorado native pitched for Xenia in 2019 and is joined by his brother Grant playing for the Scouts this summer.

 

 

HONORABLE MENTION - Pitcher of the Week

 

CHASE HOPEWELL - HAMILTON JOES - UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI

Chase Hopewell made two appearances out of the Hamilton Joes bullpen throwing eight shutout innings. Hopewell struck out 12 batters giving up just four hits and four walks earning his second save of the year in July 21.

 

 

PATRICK DILLON - LIMA LOCOS - UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO

Patrick Dillon made his first start of the season on July 22 helping the Locos clinch a playoff start in a 15-5 win over the Richmond Jazz. Dillon struck out 10 batters in five and 1/3 innings giving up just two runs on two hits and three walks.

 

 

AHMAD HARAJLI - MICHIGAN MONARCHS - UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

Ahmad Harajli struck out six batters in a four-inning relief appearance on July 22 against the Grand Lake Mariners. Harajli didn’t give up a run while only allowing two hits, two walks and striking out six batters.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The league currently consists of 13 active franchises in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
