Steam's Springer, Locos Jerger earn Week #2 honors

GLSCL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - WEEK 2
Sean Springer - Cincinnati Steam - University of Cincinnati
Sean Springer hit for a .545 batting average (6-for-11) boasting a .647 on-base percentage and .727 slugging percentage for a 1.364 OPS. Springer drove in seven RBIs, scoring four runs with two doubles and reached baes on five walks.
The Steam won all four of the games that Springer played during the voting period averaging 10.5 runs per contest.
Springer just finished up his third season at the University of Cincinnati seeing his first considerable playing time of this career this past spring. The Strongsville, Ohio native earned 66 at bats hitting .227 with two home runs, nine RBIs and 12 runs scored.
GLSCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - WEEK 2
Jayden Jerger - Lima Locos - Ohio University
Jayden Jerger threw six shutouts innings in the Lima Locos 8-0 victory over the Grand Lake Mariners on June 17 at Montgomery Field.
Jerger struck out six batters while scattering just three hits and did not allow a walk. He didn’t allowed a batter to reach base until one out into the fourth inning retiring the first 10 batters that he faced. Jerger only needed 71 pitches earning his first win of the season.
Jerger just completed his freshman season at Ohio University. The Defiance, Ohio native appeared in seven games, all out of the bullpen, throwing 10 and 1/3 innings in the spring.
HONORABLE MENTION - Player of the Week
Josh Getz - Royal Oak Leprechauns - Northwood University
Josh Getz hit for a .471 batting average going 8-for-17 in four games. Getz drove in three RBIs scoring four runs. He helped lead the Leprechauns to a four-game series win over the Richmond Jazz by winning three games in the home-and-home series.
Aaron Piasecki - Muskegon Clippers - Kellog Community College
Aaron Piasecki went .455 at the the plate (5-for-11) with a .538 on-base percentage and a .544 slugging percentage. Piasecki drove in three RBIs, scored four runs and had the game winning hit for the Clippers in a 3-2 win over the Michigan Monarchs on June 17. Piasecki, who leads the GLSCL with a .452 batting average, has helped Muskegon to a historic 8-0 start to the season.
Anthony Hausner - Xenia Scouts - The Citadel
Anthony Hausner had a .400 batting average (6-for-15) with a home run, six RBIs, two doubles and three runs scored. Hausner hit a three-run homer in a losing effort against the Cincinnati Steam on June 17. The Scouts are currently sitting atop the GLSCL South Division standings going into the third week of the regular season.
HONORABLE MENTION - Pitcher of the Week
Ben Riffe - Royal Oak Leprechauns - Southern Illinois Carbondale
Ben Riffe went six shutout innings against the Richmond Jazz on June 15 striking out six batters while giving up just three hits and no walks. Riffe got a no decision for his trouble in the Leprechauns 5-4 win over the Jazz at Memorial Park Field despite the fine effort.
Chase Senecal - Xenia Scouts - Adrian College
Chase Senecal improved his record to 2-0 on the season by pitching seven shutout innings against the Southern Ohio Copperheads on June 12. Senecal gave up just five hits and no walks while striking out two batters for the first place Scouts.
Bobby Spencer - Southern Ohio Copperheads - Towson University
Bobby Spencer struck out eight batters in five innings of work against the Licking County Settlers during the first game of a double header on June 16. Spencer gave up just one run and four hits to earn the victory. In the second game of the double header that day, Spencer went 2-for-4 at the plate as the designated hitter with a double and four RBIs.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The league currently consists of 13 active franchises in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
