Clippers Stanley and Ice Haulers Mohr Earn Week #6 Honors

GLSCL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - WEEK 6

Brett Stanley - Muskegon Clippers - Youngstown State commit

Brett Stanley had quite a week hitting at a .480 clip going 12-for-25 at the plate over the course of six games this past week. Stanley notched at least two hits in five of the six games. For the week, Stanley drove in nine RBIs scoring 11 runs.

 

The Washington Township, Michigan native delivered a game winning hit for the Clippers clinching its playoff berth out of the North Division. Stanley’s two-run double gave Muskegon the lead against the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers on July 15 solidifying the team's first playoff since 2019.

 

Stanley spent the previous two seasons playing at Kellogg Community College. This past spring he hit for a .369 batting average for the Bruins with six home runs and 48 RBIs. Just before joining the Clippers earlier this month, Stanley announced his commitment to continue his college career playing at Youngstown State.

 

In nine games with the Clippers, Stanley is hitting for a .394 batting average. He joins a team with the best record in the GLSCL with a 26-5 mark.

 

GLSCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - WEEK 6

 

Ethan Mohr - Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers - University of Findlay

Ethan Mohr pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout for the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers in a 7-0 win over the Jet Box Baseball Club on July 13. Mohr struck out seven batters only giving up four hits and one walk. He improved his record on the season to 2-1 with the victory.

 

On the season, Mohr has registered 27 strikeouts in 16 innings of work. The 6’7” right hander from Bellevue, Ohio has a 3.46 ERA this season for the Ice Haulers.

 

Mohr finished his first college season this spring pitching for the University of Findlay Oilers. He appeared in 11 games making four starts with a 1-0 record. Mohr had a 4.71 ERA in 28.2 innings or work.  

 

The Ice Haulers are 16-15 going into the all-star break in third place in the GLSCL North Division standings.

 

HONORABLE MENTION - Player of the Week

 

Jack Dupuis - Southern Ohio Copperheads - Olivet Nazarene University

Jack Dupuis went .533 at the plate hitting 8-for-15 in six games the Copperheads. Dupuis also reached base on six walks and was hit by pitch four times for a .720 on base percentage. Dupuis was elected as the starting third baseman for the South Division in the upcoming GLSCL All-Star game on July 18 at Prasco Park.

 

Max Johnson - Hamilton Joes - Rice University

Max Johnson hit for a .500 batting average going 8-for-16 at the plate. Johnson, who joined the team on July 6, reached base in 13 out of his 16 plate appearances. He scored five runs with a double, triple and two RBIs.

 

Anthony Hausner - Xenia Scouts - The Citadel

Anthony Hauser went 8-for-16 with a .500 batting average hitting one home run and four RBIs. Haunser had the game winning hit and was the winning pitcher in the Scouts 14-12 win over the Hamilton Joes on July 12.

 

HONORABLE MENTION - Pitcher of the Week

 

Allan Thorington - Jet Box Baseball Club - Grand Valley State

Allan Thorington pitched a four-hit complete game seven inning 3-0 shutout against the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers on July 11. Thorington struck out seven batters while only giving up two walks. It was his first victory of the season for the lefty who has a 3.11 ERA during the summer season.

 

Bobby Spencer - Southern Ohio Copperheads - Towson University

Bobby Spencer improved his record on the season to 3-0 with a seven-inning complete game 7-2 victory of the Licking County Settlers on July 14. Spencer struck out eight batters giving up just one earned run, five hits and just two walks. Spencer is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the South Division in the GLSCL All-Star Game on July 18 at Prasco Park.

 

Reese Bassinger - Lima Locos - Tarleton State University

Reese Bassinger tossed five innings for the Locos in a 9-3 win over the Royal Oak Leprechauns on July 16. He gave up just one run on four hits striking out five batters. Bassinger did not get a decision in the game but did throw 58 pitches with 43 of them being strikes. The Locos win that day clinched its spot in the GLSCL North Division playoff series.

 

 

ABOUT THE GREAT LAKES SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE 

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The league currently consists of 13 active franchises in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
