Joes Bryant and Copperheads Rhein Earn Week #7 Honors

GLSCL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - WEEK 7
Cameron Bryant - Hamilton Joes - College of the Holy Cross
Cameron Bryant has a great week hitting for a scorching .556 batting average while going 10-for-18 at the plate. Bryant drove in seven RBIs and scored five runs. He went 4-for-5 against the Cincinnati Steam on July 20 and 3-for-3 versus the Southern Ohio Copperheads on July 23.
The Miamisburg, Ohio native just finished his freshman season for College of the Holy Cross in the Patriot League. He played in high school at Cincinnati Country Day for head coach Asif Shah who also played in the GLSCL back in the 2006 for the Cincinnati Steam.
Bryant finish the GLSCL season hitting .320 with 24 RBIs, five doubles and one triple. He helped lead Hamilton to a second place finish in the GLSCL South Division. The Joes continue its quest for a three-peat as the two-time defending league champions beginning the South Division playoff series this week against the Xenia Scouts.
GLSCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - WEEK 7
Colin Rhein - Southern Copperheads - Stony Brook University
Colin Rhein capped his season with a seven inning complete game victory on July 21 against the Xenia Scouts. Rhein struck out a season high 13 batters giving up just one walk, one run and three hits. His performance stymied the South Division champion Scouts during a Copperheads 11-1 win.
Rhein goes down as the only multiple week award winner as he was also the GLSCL Pitcher of the Week in Week 4. For the season, Rhein finished with a 3-0 record finishing in second in the GLSCL with 49 strikeouts.
Rhein just wrapped up his second season pitching for the Copperheads. He also won the GLSCL Pitcher of Week award earning the honor in Week #5 of the 2022 season. That gives him a total of three Pitcher of the Week awards in his two seasons in Southern Ohio.
The Lindenhurst, New York resident plays in the spring for Stony Brook University.
HONORABLE MENTION - Player of the Week
Zimba Cadiz - Cincinnati Steam - Lake Erie College
Zimba Cadiz went .471 at the plate hitting 8-for-17 in five games the Steam. Cadiz also stole seven base, reached base on seven walks on his way to scoring seven runs. He lead the Steam for the season with a .371 batting average while stealing a team-high ten bases.
Dupuis was elected as the starting third baseman for the South Division in the upcoming GLSCL All-Star game on July 18 at Prasco Park.
Peter Stewart - Royal Oak Leprechauns - Rice University
Max Johnson hit for a .421 batting average going 8-for-19 at the plate. Stewart went 8-for-190 at the plate hitting two home runs driving in five RBIs. Stewart missed a good portion of the month June limiting him to just 43 at bats this season. He did end up hitting .302 in just 16 games played.
HONORABLE MENTION - Pitcher of the Week
Kyle Porter - Grand Lake Mariners - Southwestern University
Kyle Porter tossed a three-hit shutout in his first start of the season on July 23 against the Xenia Scouts. The Mariners won the game 1-0 behind Porter’s strong performance on the mound. He struck out 13 Scouts batters keeping Grand Lake in the playoff hunt until the season’s final days. Porter joined the team in July make his first three appearances out of the bullpen recording two saves.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The league currently consists of 13 active franchises in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
