GLSCL goes to 7 teams for 2024 season
The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League announces that league membership goes from 13 to seven teams for the 2024 season.
Six teams announced its intentions at the recent post season meeting that it will not field a team next season. Five of the franchises exercised its option to go dark for at least one season in order to reorganize its franchise for future long term stability. A sixth has decided to pursue opportunities in order to move to another league.
The Cincinnati Steam, Jet Box Baseball Club, Licking County Settlers, Richmond Jazz and Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers have all decided to take the upcoming season off. As per the GLSCL bylaws these organizations will have the option to return after one season giving itself a chance to return in the future.
The Cincinnati Steam organization is the only franchise that has made a public statement about its future. The Steam used it’s X account (formerly known as Twitter) to outline its intentions. Click here to read the Steam’s official statement.
The Royal Oak Leprechauns announced its intentions to move into another summer collegiate league that at this time has not been made public.
This leaves the GLSCL with seven fully operating franchises preparing for the 2024 season. The Grand Lake Mariners, Hamilton Joes, Lima Locos, Michigan Monarchs, Muskegon Clippers, Southern Ohio Copperheads and Xenia Scouts made its intention known that they will be part of the 2024 schedule which will be announced in November.
ABOUT THE GREAT LAKES SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
