Locos Blake Bowen wins Player of the Week

GLSCL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - July 1, 2024

 

Blake Bowen - Lima Locos - University of Akron

Blake Bowen went 4-for-12 at the plate reaching base 11 times in 19 plate appearances. He walked a total of seven times helping to give him a .579 on base percentage. Bowen also hit two home runs, driving in six RBIs, scored six runs and stole three bases.

 

The Locos won all four games that Bowen appeared in for the week including a series sweep on the road against the Michigan Monarchs. Bowen’s 21 RBIs is tied for most in the GLSCL with Hamilton’s Ryan Novak and is fifth with a .375 batting average.

 

The Wooster, Ohio native red shirted this past spring in his first and only season at the University of Kentucky. Bowen elected to go into the transfer portal recently announcing his commitment to the University of Akron.

 

 

HONORABLE MENTION - Player of the Week

Jackson Rains - Grand Lake Mariners - North Arkansas College

Jackson Rains narrowly missed being selected as the top player of the week. Rains hit for a .412 batting average (7-for-17) with a 1.088 on base plus slugging percentage (OPS). Rains hit three doubles while driving in four RBIs.

 

 

 

Paul Osting - Hamilton Joes - Lincoln Trial College

Paul Osting hit .333 (5-for-15) with a slash line that included a .524 on base percentage and .733 slugging percentage. Osting hit a home run, a double and a triple as part of his five hit total for the week. He scored six runs and drove in five RBIs.

 

 

Preston Leon - Muskegon Clippers - University of Minnesota

Preston Leon only appeared in two games for the week but made quite an impact. Leon went 5-for-9 as the plate with two doubles, three RBIs, scored four runs and stole four bases.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 7 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
