Muskegon's Zach Vriesenga wins Pitcher of the Week

GLSCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - July 8, 2024

Zach Vriesenga - Muskegon Clippers - Western Michigan University

Zach Vriesenga was spectacular in his July 2 start for the Clippers against the Lima Locos. Vriesenga tossed seven shutout innings scattering four hits in a 7-1 win on the road against the Locos. He struck out eight batters while not allowing a walk only allowing one free base runner on a hit batter. 

 

Vriesenga earned his first victory of the season that night reducing his GLSCL-best ERA to 1.86 on the season. On the season, Vriesenga has allowed only four walks in 19.1 innings of work striking out 16 batters.

 

The Grand Rapids, Michigan native just finished his freshman season at Western Michigan University. Vriesenga threw nine innings out of the bullpen for the Broncos as they won the Mid American Conference tournament advancing to the Lexington Regional of the NCAA tournament.

 

 

HONORABLE MENTION - Pitcher of the Week

Will DeMasse - Muskegon Clippers - Wayne State University

Will DeMasse also earned the right to be recognized for the weekly league honors. DeMasse made two appearances, one start and one in relief. He earned the win on July 7 starting against the Southern Ohio Copperheads throwing seven shutout innings going up just five hits. In four innings of relief on July 3 against the Lima Locos he went four innings giving up just one hit and three walks.

 

 

Jared Teke - Hamilton Joes - Northern Kentucky University

Jared Teke made three appearances out of the bullpen for the Joes during the week. Teke’s marquee performance was a three-inning relief appearance against the Xenia Scouts. He earned the victory on July 3 striking out six of the nine batters that he retired. For the week, Teke worked 4.1 innings giving up just two runs, one of which was earned, three hits and zero walks while striking out seven batters.

 

 

Dane Ebel - Lima Locos - Lincoln Trail College

Dane Ebel earned his first victory of the season for the Locos on July 5 against the Xenia Scouts. Ebel went five innings giving up one unearned run on three hits. He struck out four batters walking issuing three walks in Lima’s 12-4 over the Scouts.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 7 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
