HAMILTON JOES 5 GRAND LAKE MARINERS 3
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The two hottest teams in the GLSCL South Division battled it out at Montgomery Field with the Hamilton Joes taking down the Grand Lake Mariners 5-3.
The Joes won its sixth straight game thanks to a ninth inning rally when they crossed the plate three times.
Hamilton trialed 3-2 going into its last chance at the plate. Aiden Plummer (Dartmouth College) retired the first 10 batters he faced until his lost his control giving the Joes an open door. Plummer issued the back-to-back walks with one out in the ninth inning. Hamilton’s Grant Miller (Ball State) extended the rally loading the bases with an infield hit.
Carter Rust (University of Charleston) came to the plate with the bases juiced wearing the golden sombrero. Rust, who leads the GLSCL in RBIs, had struck out in his first four at bats looking for redemption.
Michael Sizemore (Lindsey Wilson College) scampered across the plate tying the score 3-3 on a wild pitch. Rust promptly smacked a double to left field clearing the bases giving the Joes a 5-3 advantage.

Jared Teke (Northern Kentucky), who had pitched a perfect eighth inning, got himself into trouble trying to close it out for the Joes in the ninth. After giving up back-to-back two-out singles, Teke struck out Clay Jacobs (Ball State) securing the victory.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Grand Lake. The Mariners pitching staff didn’t do itself any favors by surrendering 11 walks.
Aaron Walton (Samford University) went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Mariners. Ivan Hoyt (Dartmouth College) also chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI.
Grand Lake (11-14) missed an opportunity to gain ground in the GLSCL South Division race. The Mariners now find themselves tied for fourth place in the standings with the Cincinnati Steam.
The Joes (15-9) are now just half a game behind the first place Xenia Scouts after its win coupled with the Scouts being swept in a double header by the Cincinnati Steam.
XENIA SCOUTS vs. CINCINNATI STEAM - DH
PANTHER ATHLETIC COMPLEX - The Cincinnati Steam defended its home field with a double header sweep over the first place Xenia Scouts. The Steam won by scores of 8-2 and 7-0 at the Panther Athletic Complex.
Xenia held its only lead at the very start of the first game with a 1-0 advantage. Cincinnati made that lead quickly disappear in short order scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Harrison Johnson’s (Ohio University transfer) two-RBI base hit was the big blow in the inning.
The Steam added on three more runs in the second inning with Jack Vogele (Walters State Community College) spear heading the rally with a two-run triple.
The Cincinnati pitching staff did its job making the advantage stand up. Noah Kandel (Tiffin University) got the start going four innings and giving up just one unearned run. Kandel earned his second win of the season striking out six batters while only giving up one hit and three walks.
Two other Steam pitchers Michael Lorenz (Alcorn State) and Damon Stock (Tiffin University) combined with Kandel holding the Xenia offense to just two hits in the opener.
Brennan Rowe (Northern Kentucky) was 2-for-3 for the Steam in the opener with two RBIs.
Things didn’t get much better for the Scouts offense in the nightcap as they were shutout by the Steam 7-0.
Seth Klaiber (Stetson) scattered just two hits in five innings of work for his first victory of the season. Klaiber struck out six batters while only giving up two walks.
Gus Gregory (Wright State) was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Steam driving in two RBIs. Johnson continued his good fortune at the plate with and two-run double in the second inning.
The Steam (11-14) shook things up in the GLSCL South Division standings with the two wins. The Scouts (16-9) remain at the top of the South Division race but now only enjoy a half game lead over the hard charging Hamilton Joes.
MICHIGAN MONARCHS 3 SANDUSKY BAY ICE HAULERS 2
CLEARY UNIVERSITY - The Michigan Monarchs took a three-game series winning the rubber game over the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers 3-2 at Lake Trust Stadium.
The Ice Haulers cross the pay station first taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Sam Seidel (Bowling Green State) led off the innings with a walk and stole second base. Seidel advanced to third on a fly out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rhett Stokes (New Mexico Military Institute).
The Monarchs answered in the bottom of the inning when Jonah St. Antoine (University of Pittsburgh) scored on an RBI ground out by Mason Malysz (Schoolcraft Community College).
Michigan took the lead in the fifth when Makana Olaso (San Jose State) delivered a sacrifice fly scoring Jake Dresselhouse (Michigan State).
The Ice Haulers tied the game 2-2 in the sixth when Eli Snider (Seton Hill) belted a single scoring Cooper Fiehrer (Marietta College).
The Monarchs took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. St. Antoine reached on an error coming around to score what turned out to be the game winner on a RBI base hit by Tony Hatzigeorgiou (Wayne State).
Quinton Konuszewski (University of Pittsburgh), who chalked up the save in the opener of the series, earned the victory in series clincher for the Monarchs. Konuszewski threw three and 1/3 innings going giving up just one run on five hits. He struck out four batters without allowing a walk.
Avery Thielman (Western Michigan) pitched the final innings and 2/3 for Michigan earning his first save of the season.
The Monarchs (8-14) will open a three-game weekend series hosting the Royal Oak Leprechauns on Friday at Cleary University.
The Ice Haulers (13-11) now have its work cut out for them in order to earn a playoff spot. They start a three-game series against the second place Lima Locos on Friday at Simmons Field.
JET BOX BASEBALL CLUB 11 ROYAL OAK LEPRECHAUNS 1 - FINAL/7 Innings
MEMORIAL PARK FIELD - The Jet Box Baseball Club have now won four games in a row after a convincing 11-1 mercy rule victory on the road against the Royal Oak Leprechauns.
Jet Box got off the a disastrous start to the season winning just three of its first 16 games. The team is now just two games out of fourth place in the six-team GLSCL North Division standings.
Bruce Jellison (Wabash Valley College) led the way for Jet Box going 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Mark Kattula (Heartland Community College) contributed three RBIs and two runs scored while going 1-for-3 at the plate.
Joshua Korson (Oakland University) improved his record to 2-1 on the season throwing four shutout innings. Korson gave up the Leprechauns only hit but did allow five walks.
Ryan Polega (Rochester College) pitched the final three innings for Jet Box giving up just one unearned run.
Royal Oak only mustered an Alex Cheeseman (Alabama Birmingham) lead off single in the fourth inning to go in the hit column. The Leprechauns offense failed to take advantage of drawing seven walks.
Jet Box (7-13) faces a big test on Friday putting its four-game winning streak on the line during a double header against the first place Muskegon Clippers.
Royal Oak (9-12) looks to bounce back opening a three-game series against the Michigan Monarchs on Friday at Lake Trust Stadium.
