MUSKEGON CLIPPERS 4 SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 0
MARSH FIELD - The Muskegon Clippers avoided a series sweep on his its home field shutting out the Southern Ohio Copperheads 4-0 at Marsh Field.
Three Muskegon pitchers combined shutting down the Copperheads bats scattering just six hits. Southern Ohio scored double digit runs in each of the previous two games before running into a buzzsaw in the series finale.
Will DeMasse (Wayne State) was magical on the mound throwing seven shutout innings. DeMasse pitched to contact only striking out two batters. The Clippers starter gave up just five hits without allowing a walk or hit batter. DeMasse improved his record on the season to 3-0.
The Clippers (15-9) jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first inning cruising to the victory. Carson McCoy (Patrick Henry CC) singled followed by Justin Osterhouse (Purdue Fort Wayne) smacking a double to right field.
Preston Leon (University of Minnesota) grounded to second easily scoring McCoy but a error on the Copperheads second basemen allowed Osterhouse to score from second base.
With runners one the corners, Austin Cicerone (Saginaw Valley State) singled to right field driving home Leon from third base.
Leon scored again in the third inning on an RBI-single off the bat of catcher Diego Pena (Western Michigan).
Osterhouse had quite a day for the Clippers going 3-for-4 with a season-high three doubles. Osterhouse, who didn’t join the team until June 18, is leading the GLSCL with a .431 batting average.
Cicerone and Pena each contributed two hits toward’s Muskegon’s 11-hit total.
The Copperheads bats were held in check only mustering six singles. Trenton Neuer (Ohio University) was 2-for-4 from Southern Ohio’s lead off spot in the lineup.
The Clippers travel to Celina on Tuesday beginning a three-game series at Montgomery Field against the Grand Lake Mariners.
The Copperheads (12-15) will host the Lima Locos on Tuesday at Bob Wren Stadium beginning a three-game set.
XENIA SCOUTS 13 LIMA LOCOS 4
SIMMONS FIELD - The Xenia Scouts got off the deck pummeling the Lima Locos on its home field winning 13-4 at Simmons Field.
The Scouts (11-16) avoided being swept in the series after dropping the first two games to the Locos (15-12).
Xenia flexed it muscles getting off the a quick start. The Scouts were powered by two first inning home runs.
Jake McNamara (Palm Beach Atlantic University) started the party with a two-run homer. Will Lawrence, an incoming freshman to Samford University, provided a solo blast of his own later in the inning.
The Scouts put the game out of reach batting around in the fourth inning. The Scouts scored five times thanks in part to help from two costly Lima errors.
The Locos avoided the shutout with a sixth inning solo home run by left fielder Sebastian Alexander (Coastal Carolina).
Lima scored three times in the seventh inning shaving the deficit to 8-4. Justin Gorski (Miami University) provided a two-double double and Blake Bowen (University of Akron) added an RBI-single.
The Scouts put the game to bed scoring twice in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Judah Miller (Bloomsburg University) produced a well rounded game for the Xenia at the plate. Miller went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk along with scoring a game-high three runs.
The Locos will travel Tuesday to Athens opening a three-game series with the Southern Ohio Copperheads.
The Scouts also embark on a road trip heading to Spring Arbor University taking on the Michigan Monarchs.
